Snuggle and Learn Update

October 16, 2010

Just a quick note as I do my final packing for Ireland.

My current book: Snuggle & Learn Quilts for Kids is available through Martingale & Co. and can be purchased in quilt shops and on line. I have a trunk show of quilts from the book that has traveled for almost 2 years and is coming home for a rest. If you know of someone who owns a shop and would be interested in displaying the show, please pass along my blog address. There is no charge for hosting the show and a fun 4 step demonstration of my Replique technique is also included.

Thanks!

  1. Regarding young ones to quilt, I taught many of my grandchildren at 5. First they learned to hand quilt wiwth 4″ squares and made a doll blanket from their chosen fabrics from my stash. I’d draw all the lines on the fabrics and they learned (some) to make a knot and they were able to do the stitching and some won blue ribbons on the Fair. From there they were able to do machine work–this was for the girls. The boys I put right on the machine at 5 and they did pillowcases, aprons (camo fabrics) and fleece socks and at a little older age they did fleece pants for their parents for Christmas and at 8 they were able to do bags of varing sizes and abilities. Several have done larger quilts, even boys, and now that they know they can do this are making fabric scenes and I make them into wallhangings. It takes patience and they don’t necessarily continue but can pick it up at any time.
